Social Inclusion Games the Netherlands 2010: the games
Social Inclusion Games is organised under protection of the International Olympic Comittee
The Social Inclusion Games the Netherlands (SIGN) will take place from 1 to 7 August 2010 on the campus of the University of Twente. The Social Inclusion Games is an international, sporting event for socially marginalised people. The Netherlands hopes to welcome up to 1500 participants from all over Europe.
Initiators
Humanitas Onder Dak and the Federatie Opvang are the initiators for the organisation of the Social Inclusion Games in the Netherlands. The Fouding Fathers support the organisation.
Meeting each other
Participants will sport in teams as much as possible. However, individual performances are also welcome. Alongside existing sports, special forms and combinations of sport are deployed so everybody can participate at their own level. Meeting others, sharing great experiences and a new sense of community are important goals of the Social Inclusion Games. Therefore different groups and nationalities will unite in the teams. Taking part is far more important than winning!
Last year the Social Inclusion Games were held in Odense in Denmark. Over a 1.000 people from 12 different European countries participated. More information about the games in Denmark can be found on the website www.ul2009.dk.
Dutch program for participating in sports (MeeDoen)
The organisation of the Social Inclusion Games is an important part of a special program of the Federatie Opvang. This program is meant to motivate socially marginalised people to take part in sports. This program is state-aided by the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport for the next 3 years.
