Why are the games being organised?
De Social Inclusion Games are being organised to:

  • create awareness for the positive effect of sport on socially marginalised people
  • stimulate a healthier life style
  • motivate people to develop more activities in sports
  • promote the integration of people in society by involving profit and non profit organisations in the games
  • improve the acceptance of socially marginalised people on an international level

Who is the initiator of the games?
The idea for the Social Inclusion Games originates in Denmark. The following organisations are responsible for the games: The National Association of Join-In Centres (NAJIC), The Danish Sports Organization for Socially Marginalized People (IDVI), The Municipality of Odense en The Ministry of Interior and Social Affairs.

Humanitas Onder Dak and the Federatie Opvang are the initiators for the organisation of the games in the Netherlands this year. The Founding Fathers support the organisation.

Who can participate?
De Social Inclusion Games are organised for socially marginalised people in Europe. It concerns clients of members of Federatie Opvang (the Dutch organisation for the provision of emergency and sheltered accommodation and women’s shelters), RIBW (the Dutch organisation of supported housing) and FEANTSA (the European branch organisation of emergency and sheltered accommodation and women’s shelters.

How many participants can register?
You can register as many people as you like. However, we expect accompaniment from your organisation. One supervisor per 10 participants is required. We also ask you to appoint a team captain who will be the contact person before, during and after the games. The team captain will of course also be present during the whole week.

What do I need to bring along?
The organisation of the games provides shelter, food and beverages. It is important that you bring along the following:

  • a positive and sportive attitude
  • enough clothes for one week
  • sports shoes
  • sports clothing
  • sleeping bag (or blanket) and pillow
  • air mattress/sleeping mat

When are the Social Inclusion Games?
De Social Inclusion Games the Netherlands are held from 1 to 7 August 2010.

What sports can I register for?
You can register for football, basketball, softball, volleyball, archery, knotsbal, swimming, handball, athletics, checkers, chess, cycling, pétanque, floor ball, badminton, ping pong, darts, billiards, water ball, crolf and crazy golf.

Will the Social Inclusion Games be held every year?
It is the intention of the organisation to organise the games every year.

Are there costs involved?
There are no costs involved, except travelling expenses and necessary insurances.

Are spectators allowed?
Spectators are more than welcome.

Are alcohol and drugs allowed?
There is no alcohol or drugs allowed during the games.
